I have returned to teaching and am pleased to offer three excellent opportunities to explore and learn the beauty of this medium. One course is local, and two workshops will take place at the beautiful Stone Manor Studios in Newboro, ON.

Course # 1 – Explore the Beauty of Watercolour
Learn the fundamentals of watercolour in a relaxing and supportive environment. No previous painting experience required, just your enthusiasm and willingness to learn!
Watercolour is a challenging yet highly versatile medium, capable of effects that other mediums cannot provide. Understanding how water and paint interact and learning to control those characteristics is key to achieving clean, confident results. This knowledge, which you will apply throughout the course, will set you on the right path and open endless possibilities for developing your own style and approach.
- Appreciate the benefits of sketching to develop a value pattern and establish a plan for painting
- Learn about paints, brushes and preparing watercolour paper for painting
- Develop techniques for creating washes, glazing, textures, working wet-on-dry and wet-on-wet
- Understand colour theory and mixing to get the most from a limited palette
- Explore design elements and principles to create strong compositions
- Incorporate methods to preserve whites and achieve deep rich darks
Each class focuses on a specific topic and objective. Sessions include instructor-led lessons and demonstrations, weekly handouts (so you can focus on observing rather than note-taking), dedicated studio time, feedback, and constructive critique.
Whether you are new to watercolour or looking to reboot after struggling with “the dreaded mud,” this course will help you build confidence and control.
